The Marsona TSC-330 White Noise Travel Sound Conditioner is geared towards people who travel frequently. What we don’t like about the Marsona TSC-330

• Control buttons are not in an accessible location
• Cannot be powered by batteries alone; the battery pack is sold separately
• Outdated design (although few may even care if this looks like a machine from the 80s)

Please note that an international version (Marsona TSCi-330) of this model is available. It has dual voltage for use in countries with 220/240 volt power. It could also be used within the US. So if you’re a frequent international traveler, we recommend you opt for this model instead.

Our Recommendation

Even though this is more than what people would normally spend on a white noise machine, we think it’s fairly worth the price. Marsona products are known to last years and for a good night’s sleep this is worth the investment. You just have to be aware that this is basically just a white noise machine and cannot be expected to produce life like sounds. It may also require a bit of getting used to for some but for the price and effectiveness of this small machine, this should make your list.

The Marpac SleepMate 580a is similar to the previously reviewed Marpac Sleepmate 980a. The only difference is the SleepMate 580a is single speed as opposed to SleepMate 980a which is dual speed. This basically means that aside from $9 price difference, the only real difference is the ability to change the sound speed. If you go with the 580a, it’s speed is equivalent to that of the SleepMate 980a’s high speed.

Since all other specs are generally the same with the 980a model, we’ll go straight to our recommendation.

Recommendation

If you’re choosing between the Marpac SleepMate 980a vs this SleepMate 580a, we would definitively just go with the higher model. The $9 price difference doesn’t justify the omission of speed settings. Even if you feel you won’t have any need to a slower speed setting, it’s better to have the option available just in case you find the SeatMate 580a’s current setting too loud.

It is one of the most popular sound sleep machine/white noise machine available today. Because of its dimension (5.8 x 5.8 x 3.8 inches ; only 3 pounds ), it’s small enough to fit any bed side table and light enough to carry around.

Recommendation

The Marpac Sleepmate 980a electro mechanical sound conditioner will do its job of masking certain noises like snoring, barking dogs and other common not-so-loud noises. But if you’re looking for a real sound sleep machine to mask out outside noises or even loud band noises, this product may not be for you. For the price and with lower expectations, this could be a great product. We would only recommend this for people with tight budgets who have minimal noise problems and for those who do not mind the non-existing sound choices. This product has been around since 1990s so it may be too outdated for most of your needs.
